Jumpstart to College
Each event will take place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Our Jumpstart to College Program prepares all 12th grade students at The Young Women’s Leadership Schools to successfully transition to college and beyond. Jumpstart to College brings professional volunteers, educators, and students together twice a year to share wisdom and advice and teach practical skills that relate to career and college readiness. Our students participate in workshops focused on how to reach their potential; make smart decisions about the future; and achieve academic and career success.

Brag Party with Peggy Klaus
May 19, 2015 will take place from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and May 20, 2015 will take place from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm
The annual Brag Party is an event for 11th graders from TYWLS of Astoria, Brooklyn, East Harlem, and Queens. We need energetic and fabulous volunteers to help teenage girls learn the art of bragging and building self-confidence! Peggy Klaus, communication guru and author, will lead all participants in developing important soft skills. This high-energy, experiential workshop provides insights, strategies, tools, and techniques for conquering the little voice inside your head that whispers self-defeating thoughts. By the end of the workshop, students and volunteers will know how to toot their own horn (in the right way, of course!) about the great things they have accomplished.

Cool Women Hot Jobs - Career Day Series
Each event will take place from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
We need women from diverse personal and professional backgrounds to ignite a spark in TYWLS students. Volunteers will educate and inspire girls in the 6th and 9th grades about the many career opportunities and possibilities ahead of them. As a volunteer, you will be asked to speak in small groups about your daily activities, responsibilities and challenges, the education and skills needed to succeed in your field, your career path, and interesting aspects about your profession.
The day will last from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
We are looking for companies to host 8-10 students (10th grade, age 15) at their offices to introduce them to the world of work. We seek companies that can give our students a “big picture” perspective of the different types of jobs in the company and industry, as well as a snapshot of day-to-day responsibilities. We will work with you to create an agenda and program and will ask you to provide engaging, diverse volunteers and a healthy lunch. This is a great opportunity for students to gain first-hand knowledge in the workplace and meet terrific role models.
